. >> reporter: wayne jones is sifting through what's left of his henryville, indiana home. a tornado demolished this town, sending a school bus into a building, dropping a tractor trailer on a gas station and shearing the walls off homes. terry cuts went to insect the convenience store where she used to work. >> i don't see any possible way anybody could have survived in this. >> reporter: the tornado moved with such force, it blew the back wall off of the high school gym here. devastation like this stretches across the midwest and south. a shot from the air shows the storm's path through kentucky and the town the west liberty, the national guard joins state police serving for survivors. residents who got out alive aren't allowed to go home yet. >> the area has been declared martial law and we're asking everybody to stay out. you can see it's a very dangerous area. >> reporter: in ohio, a twister for up the town of moscow and at least one person died in alabama where the first storm started friday morning. in henryville, wayne jones is trying to stay positive. >> i have insurance tha

this henryville, indiana house. homes and businesses across the small town are gone, blown apart by the storm. kids were evacuated from the high school just 20 minutes before the roof was ripped off. >> i'm just thankful that everybody's safe. >> reporter: in nearby marysville, this entire neighborhood was flattened, leaving homes in pieces. >> that is just amazing. >> reporter: a string of tornadoes ripped through the midwest and south on friday, leaving behind damage in nine states. more than two dozen people are dead, and that number is expected to rise. crews are looking for survivors, but finding more victims. after the storm hit moscow, ohio-- >> sounded like a train coming through. >> reporter: -- jared gorth went down the street to his sister's house. he watched as officers searched the property, hoping to find her alive, but she didn't survive. in alabama, at least 40 homes were destroyed, another 100 suffered heavy damage. when the storm moved through new market, alabama it, tore this house to shreds. this is a piece of a bathtub, over here is a stove, and this is what's left

tornados tore through the midwest and the south. terrell brown reports for wjz from indiana where residents are trying to pick up the pieces. >> reporter: people are working together, distributing water, and sifting through donated supplies, food and clothing as they start to rebuild their lives. two tornados hit henryville friday, one packed winds in excess of 16 a 165 miles per hour, clean up is underway but it's going to take time. officials are trying to figure out how they will finish the rest of the year, the elementary, middle and high school complex were you had destroyed. the weather could complicate clean up efforts. watches, advisorys and warnings are across indiana and kentucky, up to four inches could fall in henryville. west liberty, utility trucks rolled in to help restore power. crews are working alongside neighbors picking through mounds of debris. this home was blown apart, she recovered family photos but says she is one of the lucky ones. at least 39 people died across five states, 15 month old angel babcock was the latest victim, found alive in a field friday,

land is ordered to testify about the stage collapse that killed several people as the indiana -- at the indiana state fair in august. that's an order from an indiana judge. several families of the victims have filed a lawsuit against the ban. they say sugar land was negligent in the incident. seven people died when the stage collapse and more than 40 others were injured. the scaffolding fell just as sugar land was to take stage. >> getting married is one of the biggest days of persons life. now imagine sharing the day with 2000 other couples. this massive ceremony was held in south korea. couples from 54 countries came out to participate in more than 20,000 church followers came to watch. church leaders say their goal is to make the world more peaceful by bringing so many people together at one time. >> i have a friend who got married in a ceremony like that. >> very nice. >> now they have a baby. >> that's an international couple. >> helping cancer patients at one wedding dress at a time. >> a very special bridal show taking place downtown. part of the sales go to a good cause. wjz

community and hundreds of volunteers are now helping with the clean up efforts. henryville indiana. >>> 21 adults and 7 children forced out of their homes following a fire in the bayview district. the fire started at 9:30 last night spread to three other buildings. what may have started the fire. >> it was inferno. it was about a hundred feet high. >> reporter: when a fire breaks out in a home so close to others, everyone on the block senses the danger. >> the fire was so intense you can feel it, and i was across the street. you could feel the fire. >> reporter: it started in this home at around 9:30 last night on oak dale and quinn and spread to three other building before firefighters were able to get it under control just after 11:00 p.m. more than 2 dozen people are out of their homes. >> people was running out with their flat screen tvs their clothes anything they can carry in their hands. >> reporter: in addition to the four buildings that were damaged in this fire, even the church next-door was affected. they had to cancel services today because of all the smoke in the air. >> you k

battered the midwest. snow is now slowing recovery efforts in kentucky and indiana. several states in the midwest were rocked by dozens of tornadoes friday. 39 people have been condition con -- confirmed dead, including 15-year-old angel babcock who was thrown into a field. medics rushed her to the hospital but she later died of her injuries. >>> on the west coast, people are a little on edge this evening after two earthquakes. officials say back-to-back earthquakes shook the san francisco bay area at 5:00 p.m. according to the u.s. geological survey, just seconds later, the area was rocked again by a 4-point magnitude tremor. there are no reports of injuries or damage. >>> this was the scene just a little while ago here in maryland. as you can see, snow flurryless. that's what was here on television hill. any more where that came from? let's go to meteorologist bernadette woods, tracking live doppler radar. >> reporter: we're going to go to live doppler radar. and things are calming down. first up, though, there was some light snow across southern maryland and lower parts of the east

. there are reports of a large it happened touches down in indiana, within the last hour. >>> first warning weather team is keeping a close eye on those violent storms. meteorologist tim williams and bob turk are tracking the weather. >> we have been watching these system not unprecedented that we have these types of storms. but this is really pretty early. because. types of temperatures we have been dealing with. this is early this morning. around 8:00, is where we start to see the storms fire up. they have been moving to the northwest, to alabama. to the northwest, up toward kentucky and tennessee. they're continuing to move up. and the next batch, as you've already seen, is starting to fire up this afternoon through the heat of the day. the key here is, we do have this next round. and our live doppler radar shows that the low driving this is starting to move over toward indianapolis. and up toward the great lakes. all of that energy is moving up to the east. and this firing line right around louisville, back toward nashville, is all starting to kick in. these are very, very stron
